How to Choose a Mylar Bag Supplier: 9 Questions That Actually Matter
Every packaging site says the same four things: fast shipping, wholesale pricing, premium quality, free design. None of it is verifiable from a homepage. These questions are.
1. Where does it physically ship from?
Not the corporate address — the warehouse. A supplier holding real inventory will name a city without hesitating. If the answer is vague, you're likely buying from an order-taker routing to an overseas factory.
2. What can ship today?
This is the fastest way to separate stocked inventory from made-to-order. Stocked suppliers answer with products. Made-to-order suppliers answer with a lead time.
3. What's the actual minimum order?
A hard 500 or 1,000-unit minimum on a standard bag means it's being manufactured for you, not pulled off a shelf. That's fine if you planned for it, and a problem if you need 200 units on Thursday.
4. What's the price at my reorder quantity?
Not the single-unit price. If you reorder 200 at a time, ask for the 200 price. Suppliers who can't quote tiered pricing at your volume aren't set up for wholesale.
5. How fast does an out-of-stock SKU come back?
Domestic stock restocks in days. Overseas restocks take weeks. This matters most for the SKU you sell the most of — the one you can least afford to be out of.
6. Is it exactly what's pictured?
Ask about film thickness, seal type, and dimensions in writing. "Premium mylar" isn't a specification. A width, a height, a closure type, and a material are.
7. What happens if the run is wrong?
Get the answer before you order, not after. A supplier holding domestic inventory can usually replace from stock. One that produced offshore is often asking you to wait for the next container.
8. Can I get one before I commit?
For anything you're going to reorder repeatedly, buying a small quantity first is cheap insurance. Suppliers with no minimums make this easy. Suppliers with high MOQs structurally can't.
9. Can I reach a human?
Packaging problems are time-sensitive — a drop date doesn't move because a bag seal was wrong. A supplier with a phone number or text line that a person actually answers is worth more than one with a slightly better unit price and a contact form.
The pattern
Most of these questions are really one question: does this supplier hold inventory, or are they brokering someone else's? Both models are legitimate. But they fail in completely different ways, and you should know which one you're buying from before something goes wrong — not after.
